“Quite a few years back I was tasked with building a website for a start-up company that was innovative and ?happening'. Of course, they didn't want any old web site, they wanted something with lots of movement and sound and animation like the ones they had seen on the web. The sites they showed me all used Macromedia's new-fangled (then) Flash to create stunning and dynamic sites. Being pretty savvy with the Internet and most things on it, I headed over to Macromedia's site and download a trial version of Flash 4 and installed it on my machine. Now, seeing as I have the artistic ability of a freshwater lobster, the creations I made with Flash were, shall we say, pathetically hopeless to the point of being laughable. Then one day I received an email from the good folks at Coffeecup, who emailed me because they could tell I had obvious good taste due to the fact I had already purchased a number of their excellent software programs, like the Coffeecup HTML Editor and Coffeecup DirectFTP. They were touting some new thing they came up with called Firestarter. Now I knew Firestarter only as a pretty good Steven King book (then a not-so-good movie) but what got my attention was the fact that Firestarter was a new Flash-creation application. Talk about timing! How did they know? Was my web-cam being tapped? Is that even possible? Anyway, I downloaded the trial and within a minute I had a groovy sliding, fading exploding animation (Hello Dave if you must know) playing in my browser window. Wow! Talk about easy! Firestarter is not only ridiculously easy to use it almost makes up for my complete lack of creativity. I say almost because nothing is THAT good! I purchased Firestarter after that first animation and believe me, it cost WAY less than Flash. I spent hours and hours sweating and agonizing over the site I had been commissioned to build and Firestarter was my only friend during those long nights. Eventually, the site was finished and I held my breath as the guys from the company watched my creation in silence. At the end, no-one spoke. Then they all turned and shook my hand and clapped me on the back and told me it was exactly what they were looking for. Boy was I relieved. They thought I was some kind of genius, but little did they know that Firestarter was my secret weapon. Since those early days I have used Firestarter on just about every site I have made, and I've made a few. Whether it is a full on animated opening or a simple fade-in or out, Firestarter does it all and it does it with a few clicks of a button. Forget Flash, forget KoolMoves and forget Swish; Firestarter might not have the zillion buttons and the fancy icons, but it does exactly what I want it to do, every time. Firestarter is the only flash tool I will ever need.”
